Surgery in a week. PLZ help.

Tue, 08/29/2006 - 17:12
I am having surgery to remove a 7-8 mm tumor or lesion in my right Temporal lobe next Weds. I have had an increbidly positive attitude about the situation but now I am starting to get a little scared. I guess I am worried b/c I am a Senior in college and just started my second to last semester 2 weeks ago and am hoping to complete it after going through with this. I was told I would be good to go in a month, is that about right? I see alot of problems listed on here that ppl have encountered, I am just looking for something positive but I want to know the truth also. Thanks in advance!

Hey, good luck. I'm having brain surgery in 3 weeks to remove a cyst from my left temporal lobe. It's 10mm big. It causes seizures for me every month when I ovulate. I've had them for 11 years now. My verbal memory is fading, so surgery is needed before I know nothing by the time i'm 45. I'm currently 31, a little older than you, but scared and worried about the near future, too. My boyfriend and my friends are all telling me it will be okay, but it's scary. I want to know my life will be the same and/or better and I wont have even more problems, after the fact. I don't want to be 'in recovery' for 6 months or an indefinite period of time. So i'm just trying to stay positive and healthy and do all the little things that I can do to keep myself happy. I don't want my memories before major surgery, to help better myself, to be all stressfull ones. I hope you do well and I hope you can write me and let me know how it goes for you, before I go in on Sept 27th. I'm going to have my surgery in NY at Albany Medical Center. I'm putting you on my buddy list, too. Talk to you soon....Kelly

I also had seizures related to my monthly cycle & spent years attempting to convince my docs this was the case. Ended up havin a partial hysterectomy 4 yrs ago (fibroid) but noticed the seizures subsided. Then 1 yr ago they started back up in full force and had already tried 9 different anti's, I decided to have RTL surgery 7 wks ago. Being a single mom with 2 kids and having brain surgery is a heck of a "stress factor" and emotions were running "wild and crazy" before surgery. I suddenly realized that everyone around me was just as scared and decided to step back and let them "worry" for me. I can honestly tell you leaving that job for others can take a big load off your mind as you head towards this life changing experience. The recovery road is long and but you won't be traveling all alone. Come back and visit when you are up to it. Wishing you success and full recovery! Sherri

I just want to wish you good luck with your surgery. I had surgery about 6 years ago, and life is so much better now that I have had surgery. Just make sure that you keep that positive attitude and it will help you through any tests or surgery. Good luck Debbie1202
