Surgery in a week. PLZ help.

Tue, 08/29/2006 - 17:12
I am having surgery to remove a 7-8 mm tumor or lesion in my right Temporal lobe next Weds. I have had an increbidly positive attitude about the situation but now I am starting to get a little scared. I guess I am worried b/c I am a Senior in college and just started my second to last semester 2 weeks ago and am hoping to complete it after going through with this. I was told I would be good to go in a month, is that about right? I see alot of problems listed on here that ppl have encountered, I am just looking for something positive but I want to know the truth also. Thanks in advance!

I will probably be going in soon myself for surgery in my left temporal lobe (scar tissue). I want you to know that even though I haven't gone in yet I will be thinking of you and wishing you the best of luck. Most of the reading I have done sounds like we will be up and around in a few weeks. Best Wishes and let us all know how you are, Take Care Dawn

George - NYC Dawn--Just relax! I went through exactly the same thing you're facing, and look back on that operation as the smartest thing I've done in my life so far. Maybe not getting married was a bit smarter, who knows? I was in Montreal Neurological Clinic for about three weeks for thorough examinations night and day, all the while off my anti-seizure pills. Only once did I have a tonic-clonic ("grand mal") seizure down on a hallway floor, and that was done (I suppose) purposely so that the neurologists could witness the event. The surgery took about 5 hours, the pain afterwards not all that pleasant. But I was given medicine to make that easier. Only a few days later was I back on a jet to my home in NYC. Yes, I still have epilepsy, but my seizures are far less frequent, and much, much milder. Best of luck to you!

I had surgery last January

I had surgery last January 12th. During that surgery they discovered a ganglioglioma tumor (it had existed since before I was born) in my left temporal lobe, exactly where the seizures originated. Since that time I have had no seizures and have had the first EEG in my life with a normal reading. That's 'my' truth. Wishing you the best of luck ~sol I was given 3 weeks of the 'nice' drug (Demerol) after surgery, so I suffered no after-surgery pain whatsoever. Zero.
