Looking for best Surgical facilities

Thu, 12/15/2011 - 11:10
Hi All, About two months ago I finished all necessary pre-operative testing needed to determine if I was a candidate for surgery. My epileptologist sent me to the local Neurosurgeon here in Tampa (Dr. Fernando Vale) and the Nuerosurgeon wasn't very confident that surgery would help with my seizures. I went back to my epileptologist and he indicated all the data shows him that surgery is my best option and that I should go see another Nuerosurgeon. He pointed me to Mass. General Hospital in Boston, NYU, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. or Yale. I am trying to decide where to go for the second opinion and was hoping someone might have insight on any of these facilities (or any others on the East Coast or Midwest) and the Nuerosurgeon(s) at these facilities? Thanks in advance, Paul

Have you looked into The Minnesota Epilepsy Group. Surgery is not an option for our child but they do have a surgical facility, and if the Neurosurgoens are anything like the epileptologist there, may be worth the look! Best of luck to you.

Take a look at the Find An Epilepsy Center tab in the ToolBox to the left of the site. There are very good epilepsy centers that do surgery in Florida and that area - Atlanta is close by and has great facilities, as do many other states down there! Good luck! Epi_help Resource Specialist

Hi Paul,

I'm set to have surgery at Mayo in Rochester, MN early 2012. I've was in for six days of testing and have had two follow up appointments since.  I now only see their Neurologists and will meet with the Neurosurgeons on Jan 3, but I've heard amazing things about Mayo and what I've seen this far is nothing short. I would't consider anywhere else.

I am so anxious to get this done, I'm not responding to any medicatications at this point and I need a life I can live.

I wish you the best!
