Looking for best Surgical facilities

Thu, 12/15/2011 - 11:10
Hi All, About two months ago I finished all necessary pre-operative testing needed to determine if I was a candidate for surgery. My epileptologist sent me to the local Neurosurgeon here in Tampa (Dr. Fernando Vale) and the Nuerosurgeon wasn't very confident that surgery would help with my seizures. I went back to my epileptologist and he indicated all the data shows him that surgery is my best option and that I should go see another Nuerosurgeon. He pointed me to Mass. General Hospital in Boston, NYU, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. or Yale. I am trying to decide where to go for the second opinion and was hoping someone might have insight on any of these facilities (or any others on the East Coast or Midwest) and the Nuerosurgeon(s) at these facilities? Thanks in advance, Paul

paul,

I recently had surgery for my seizures too! I had it done at BWH" Brigham Womens Hospital"  A nero surgon came over from childerns  to preform my surgery. I'm 28yrs old. I still got a pedeatric nero surgon! I'm a toyarus kid. hhehe.  Mass general is another great hospital. I've had surgery there too. My VNS was preformed there.  at BWH if you take part of research studies i did. Then you get to play vidieos in the OR! i was part of 4 research studies! any other questions let me know!

Hello abelle, I thought I would be having my surgery done by Dr. Vale as well. My understanding from my epileptologist is that in their get together (before me seeing Dr. Vale) was that everyone was on board. But at my appointment with Dr. Vale, he seemed not so confident that this was the way to go. I am sure he is a great surgeon and was impressed by everything I had read about him. But in the end I want someone that is going to be confident that this is the best approach. How have you been since your surgeries? Have you had seizures since? Paul

Hello Paul. I was seizures free for 2+ years. I started driving again and went back to work. I became a workaholic and.... Started having seizures again. Now they're complex partial, not granmal though! Keep us up-dated on your situation.
