Your husband is making the right decision. Don't doubt yourself for a second. Refractory epilepsy is very difficult (putting it mildly) to live with. I also had left TL surgery, almost 6 years ago. My epilepsy was refractory for 13 years. An occaisional aura aside, I've now been seizure free, although I still take medications. It will take time to recover....you feel kind of "different" for a while, and some people notice a slight memory issue from the surgery, but you manage things pretty well. It's a difficult decision, but the fear of the surgery, as well as a slight memory impact (verbal or short term,) is a small to price to pay for seizure reduction or freedom from seizures. Sometimes if someone waits too long to have surgery, they may no longer be a surgical candidate, as some people can develop a second seizure focus. Every case is different, of course. THe only difficult thing is that doctors cannot tell you how long headaches after surgery will last. Wish there was a magic answer to that question, but it will pass. Go for it, and good luck!

I'm glad you were able to deal with "real people". Hopefully they will be able to help answer some of the post-op questions you're likely to have after the fact.
