How bad is test where u r removed from meds & allowed to seize?

Fri, 08/18/2006 - 14:49
I went to the doctor Tuesday and told him I had 2 more seizures this past month. I have at least 2 a month and have tried Dilantin (still on), Keppra, Topamax, Zonegran (just started), Depakote...and one more I can't remember. He says he is going to send me to get testing done where they take me off my meds and let me have seizures while hooked up to some stuff. He said surgery may be a possibile help to me. Its really scary to me and I was wondering if anyone had any info they could tell me. Thanks so much!

Hi Wendy, I am currently going through all the pre-surgical testing. I have complex partial seizures in my left temporal lobe. I went in May to have my Visual EEG done and had to stay for 5 days. The nursing staff was wonderful and the test was not bad at all. What I would tell you to expect is how you normally feel when you are having seizures in the past. Where I had my test done, they had me bring someone to stay with me the entire time. Also, if you like to read, play cards, games, etc., bring that. I would say, however you usually feel when you go through your seizures will be what will happen and that will only be if they can get them to occur. I consider myself lucky that I had 5 in the first 3 days I was there. Also, bring yourself snacks or things you want to eat. The nurses at my hospital even gave me take out/delivery menus to order food from in case you get sick of the hospital food. Trust me, I was terrified too and even though I did have quite a few seizures and was stressed out and tired from the sleep deprevation, it was not painful. Best wishes to you. ;-) Dawn
