How bad is test where u r removed from meds & allowed to seize?

Fri, 08/18/2006 - 14:49
I went to the doctor Tuesday and told him I had 2 more seizures this past month. I have at least 2 a month and have tried Dilantin (still on), Keppra, Topamax, Zonegran (just started), Depakote...and one more I can't remember. He says he is going to send me to get testing done where they take me off my meds and let me have seizures while hooked up to some stuff. He said surgery may be a possibile help to me. Its really scary to me and I was wondering if anyone had any info they could tell me. Thanks so much!

i have complex partial seizures, they r contolled with medication, but they r scary as hell when i have them, and even worse right when they r over. i've had an eeg, meg, and a normal mri. i'm scheduled for a pet scan and an mri with electrodes on september 12th. they said they saw electric dischrage constantly going off in thr right side of my brain when they looked at the eeg so they had me get an meg. they said they needed to compare the meg with another mri, this time with the electrodes attatched. my real question is, do u have to get a video eeg? i mean is it always needed before surgery or can they find it other ways? i hope to god i don't have to take one that would be worse than death. cuz people tell me i always shout "kill me" over and over again right after the seizure because i'm in so much pain. so anyway i just wanted to know if the veeg is always used or not.

I also have been diagnosed with complex partial seizures. However I have only experienced 1 tonic clonic seizure almost 1 year ago on sept 1, 2005. I have not experienced any other type of seizure probably because my medication controls them. My eeg showed brain spikes in my right frontal lobe, which my neur explained is complex partial seizures. I read that you shout "kill me" over and over after a seizure, because of the pain. What kind of pain do you feel? How long does it last? I have read over and over that seizures aren't painful, just exhausting, but I have also read about other people saying how painful their seizures are.

its not as much the pain as it is the feeling like i am being smothered or drowning. its the worste feeling in the world, it doesn't help that drowning is probably the thing that scares me the most that and smothering. so when my fears seem to become reality all i want is for it to stop and in my mind the quickest and simplest way to do that would be killing me. when its all over, my muscles hurt all over my body, more so on the left side of my upper body, but my muscles stay sore for about 2 days. when i was younger i used to black out, but now i am awake for it all and it is worse than death, for me atleast.
