trileptal

Tue, 08/21/2007 - 10:32
My daugther Kaitlyn (2) is on Trileptal. She started it on August 4th. The day we started the medicine she started to have a different type of seizure where she did eye fluttering, she did this twice. We normally can't ever tell she is having a seizure and when we can, they are few and far in between. She does have constant activity. The night that we started the Trileptal she wasn't able to fall asleep on her own, and ever since then it's continued. She isn't falling asleep until well after midnight every night and it takes about 2 hrs or more for her to relax enough to finally drift off to sleep. She has been having noticeable seizures everyday, often more than once. I have been calling the neuro everyday since starting the medicine and he hasn't gotten back to me. Someone please help!

Rebecca, Kaitlyn sleeps in her own room, I know that she would sleep better in our room but our son Christopher who is 1 (also possibly has seizures) sleeps in there on and off. I am not sure what to do. I almost want her in our room but I don't want to kick out my son either. I am going get a video monitor, I wish we had one already. I really don't know what to do about the Trileptal because she is having multiple seizures a day, to the point where people who don't know what her's look like are pointing them out. She is really restless all of the time and is not getting very angry. Thanks for the response. I still haven't found out anything from our neuro, and it's been almost 3 weeks since I started calling him complaining about it. *Sigh* Emily

I would absolutely change neuros - we did and are much happier with the new one. If I call and say he is having seizures the dr will return my call within hours, if I call and say it is an emergency the nurse will put me right through to him. I think if her seizures are managed properly she should not be having any, right? Are you located where there is a children's hospital? Do you have a family history of seizures? Get the video monitor - babiesrus has them on sale or there are coupons all the time. -Rebecca

We are located close to a Children's Hospital but the neuro we had there, we really didn't have good luck at all with. He was very stern, bad bedside manner.... and never gave us information. We don't have a family history that we can find of seizures but I mean, anything is possible when most of the family members have died around the around of 40, we don't have a good history to go off of. On payday we are going to go go and have to get one. We will probably end up having to get two, one for Kaitlyn and one for Christopher but I'm sure they are worth it. Thanks!! Emily
