School is too hard!

My dd was four when she was diagnosed. We treated her with Lamictal right away. She has multiple multiple generalized and absence seizures. The Lamictal has controlled the generalized seizures. We just started on Trileptol to help control the absence and I do not think it is working. She also has ADD and is on Daytrana. This year first grade is very hard for her. Her twin brother is in her class and really helps her out with different things. It is so frustrating to me to see her not understanding what is going on around her. She seems to live in a DAZE. I wonder how much of it is the meds and how much of it her seizures. Tomorrow I am adding medical to her IEP to get some extra help at school. Has anyone been through anything like this? I cry and cry and wonder what else I can do to help her. Please help, I am lost.

Just FYI. My daughter was also on Strattera, and it helped her, but that is when her seizures increased. In Feb, 2006 the FDA added a new warning to ADHD meds including Strattera, that they will increase seizure activity if prone for seizures. You may want to ask your doctor, or check it out for yourself. I can't remember the website now, but it came up when I did a search. My daughter was not on AEDs at the time, because we were not aware of her epilepsy. We believe the Strattera, is what made it more noticeable. She has absence and myoclonic seizures. It could be the combination of ADHD with AEDs are o.k. Lori

My daughter is 6, she was just diagnosed with E in August. She is in 1st grade this year, she had no problems in Kindergarten, but this year is struggling so bad, its like shes in the beggining of Kindergarten again. It seems like everything is so much harder. I also cry alot, I know things could always be worse, but its sad to watch your child be the "one" that isn't like the others.
