my daughter and school

Mon, 10/30/2006 - 23:06
i have a few concerns with the school my 6 year old goes to.she developed epilepsy a year ago and we have now started treating it about a month and ahalf ago.Anyways when i told the teacher about it she acted like she was scared and now i am having problems with my daughter not wanting to do her work at least thats what the teacher says and when i went to do a follow up on how she was doing in school the teacher said that she is so behind and that in different words she shouldn't be in grade one.I found out from my daughter that the teacher yells at her then puts her in the hall. The teacher told me that she had enough and can't deal with her anymore. My daughter seizers have gotten better but not totally gone yet but the wierd thing is when she comes home with homework i would tell her that its time to do it and she gets right to it.I feel that she is doing well but the teacher thinks different.Do you think that the teacher has a problem with her epilepsy? She doesn't know anything about epilepsy either though.Any advise please

I have read through completely and was hoping you would be back with a update. This is not even acceptable from what I've heard in Canada. I do know that Canada has some form of a Individual Education Plan. IEP. So please, get to the Superintendent and get this solved now. This is very important. Donna

hi scared mom i am also from Canada (PEI). my son is only 4 but i have already started talking to the school about Carson starting . The kindergarten teacher told me that they can apply for a specail worker to work one on one with Carson She said all they have to do is contact the dept of education and request it . I am not sure what it takes to qualify but being around the school i see many education assistants that help out in the classrooms with the kids that need help.It may be worth looking into.A mom once told me that not much is just given to you unfortunatly you will have to fight for you kids rights almost every step of the way .I am in a fight now with Physio therapy and speach therapy. So often people spend mere moments with our kids and feel they know them as well as we do telling us what our kids will and wont be able to do. Well you and I both know the potental they show because we are the ones that spend the most time with them and I refuse to take negative feed back i don't agree with .to me a degree doesnt make you as much an expert on your child as being a parent does every case is different as is every child. keep fighting for what you believe in and good luck to you and your daughter . I hope things get easier for you guys
