disability benefits for kids with Epilepsy

Does anyone know of disability benefits for kids with Epilepsy? Our daughter has fallen soooooooooooooooooo far behind in her algebra that she'll have to go to summer school just to get the credit to stay on track for 10th grade next year. I'll looked and looked on the internet and have come up short. my doctor was no help in this matter either. We have no support groups down here in Charleston. Go figure. Im not looking for a full ride but close if not half of the tuition for the sylvan learning center which by the way is $3000 for 65 of instruction. so if anyone knows of grants or anything that helps parents in this matter please pass it on... Im not up here that often so please place it here so other parents will know and also please email it to me at mahansc@bellsouth.net. thanks. Scott & Kellie M.

emsmom what do you mean by social system? we have a 504 plan in place for accommodations for my daughter for each class. My wife is a school teacher and she cant find anything. $3000 is alot of money i could pay it put getting a little stiffen from the state of county would be nice. i'll search the ADA again but last two times I came up empty. thanks scott

Scott, This may post twice. I sent it out there somewhere! By social system I mean social services. In the phone book there should be government pages with listings for Social Services, Welfare, Aid for Dependent children. Our daughter's PT suggested we call social services and we got in touch with a social worker who helped get us into the system. We are in a program that is funded by a grant through our county. Have you looked in the government pages for an advocate for the ADA? I have heard from several parents that is it very difficult to get the schools to do what they have to do by law. I hope you can find the funding or get the school to step up with tutoring or allowing more time for your daughter and her lessons plans and homework.

I have three boys suffering from epilepsy and it is so sad because there is no help. We tried to get disability pay for the kids to help with all the dr. bills and the fact I can't work b/c I have to take care of them and every dr. appt is 45 min to 2hours depending on traffic from home. There is just no help! I wish there was. Please if you find something let me know too. Sorry I am not of more help. Ashly Mellor
