Continual hand twitching (slow) in teen with generalized epilepsy

Fri, 03/23/2007 - 22:47
Am wondering if anyone had seen continual hand twitching (right hand, last two fingers, slow movements)? Teen was recently diagnosed with generalized epilepsy and has just started on lamictal. Neurologist seems stumped by the hand movements. EEG shows spikes and some slow waves which may have been because it was sleep deprived. Labs and CT are normal.

Hi, I had a great deal of hand movement when I was on Lamictal. So much so it got me out of painting things and walls around the house.Even writing things was tough. The trembeling was terrible at times I was still getting sezuries so the doctors weaned me off of it.So my wife weaned me back to the painting jobs. I'll tell you having epilepsy is not fun.

My son's hands do that a lot..particularly his right. Looks like he's flexing his fingers, but it's uncontrollable and he doesn't even notice it at times. Our neuro says it's probably seizures or post-ictal affects. Hope this helps some! Anna Mom to Tyler, 16, with Intractable Seizure DO, PDD-NOS, & ADHD. Hello, I have 6 year old twins that were both diagnosed with generalized epilepsy at 10 months old. They started having seizures within days of each other. Anyway, they have both been on lamictal for about 2 years now. We've never had such side affects. However, just within the last 2 weeks, one of them started this uncontrollable twitching, starting in one shoulder, then it would move to the next and finally his legs would jerk. It finally got so bad it was just constant jerking all over his body. His neurologist thinks that he's developing myoclonic seizures which are still considered generalized, but they cause this twitching or jerking. You might want to ask your neurologist if this is possibility.
