Question about aura's

Mon, 05/15/2006 - 11:28
How exactly do aura's feel? Can you have aura's and not have an actual seizure? I think I had some this weekend. I went off into like a "spacy" feeling. Like I was tingling and I couldn't make myself snap out of it for a few seconds. I have had a headache since I has these feelings. I have had E a long time, but I am new to all the terminology and so forth. Thanks.

Hi Wendy Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this one but I am only after seeing this now. Every aura is different to every individual who has them. And an aura is an actual seizure too, called partial seizure like a warning before you are about to have the actual seizure. I have partial seizures and grand mal seizures, but mostly partial seizures which I call warning (auras). Mine are feelings of numbness in the right side of my body in my right arm and hand. I cant continue writing for example if this happened. I'd drop the pen not intentionally or if I tried to continue to write I'd end up squiggling. I cant think straight anymore. I loose concentration and become confused. This lasts for about 5-10 seconds and takes about 30 seconds to think straight again afterwards and have the mobility back in my hand and arm, that is of course I dont have a grand mal seizure! Everyone is different. What your auras are like are different from other peoples. You may come across someone who has the same too! The point is, there is not one kind of aura. There are many. Hope this helps :) Quirky

Hi Wendy, I am new to the board. I feel that for each of us our aura is different. For myself I get a feeling of nausa, or the taste as if you had placed a 9 volt battery on your toung a metalic type taste. Lite headed. Or any combination of the three. Sometimes a seizure will follow sometimes they will not. One must realise that the aura itself is also classified as a seizure by most Drs. Good Luck Cheryl

Dear Wendy,I've had my first seizure when I was 9,but think I was having auras before my first seizure. An aurar feels like a flutter in your stomach and a peculiar feeling of your surroundings.I had brain surgery at 16 and I do sometimes have an aura without having a full blown seizure. An aura only lasts a split second or two.I hope this helps.
