A new Godiva Chocoholic Here

Hi, I'm fairly new here..been around for maybe a week or so. This seems like a pretty cool group to find out information about epilepsy treatments and make some great friends who will relate to life. A little about me... Well, I'm 32 years old. Female. Common-law. And, since I work in Information Technology, the joke is that my boyfriend needs to upgrade the "beta version" promise ring to a version 5.0 (this will be our 5 year anniversary in Oct) engagement ring. Time will tell. We plan on getting married some day late 2006 or early 2007 probably. So, my major concern is getting these seizures under control so some day he and I can attempt kids naturally. Oh ya, and I'm from Ontario, Canada - near Toronto. Dunno if anyone else is from Ontario, but my other major thing these days is (and ya, I know this may sound like whining, but it is what it is). Well, I have a decent job, but I hate it. My department is all "buddy, buddy boys club-ish" if ya know what I mean, and well, I'm not one of the boys. So, I get made to feel useless and nothing I say ever counts or matters. Well, in Ontario medical coverage for prescriptions comes with your job. I'm on Keppra, Topomax and Clobazam for seizures, plus birth control pills for hormonal seizures (IUD is real method), and I need my job for dental. No foundations will help me out for the 3 mth interim if I quit my job and get a new one, so really I have to make sure I have $1500 dollars saved up, and my guy makes less than me, so it's like I'm stuck in hell for the medical. Can't wait to maybe get off Topomax. Anyways, it's cool to find a great group of people, and be ablt to help out others in anyway I can. Looking forward to meeting lots of new people and becoming friends with people. Add me to your buddy list if ya want to...I'll try not to ignore people, but gotta admit life gets a little crazy at times! Sending a smile to all :) Godiva Girl (a chocoholic....love Godiva Truffles)

Hey GodivaGirl, I'm from Ontario, Canada too. I can understand the whole 'not being one of the boys', as I'm a 29 year old female in IT as well. I believe it is why (or at least a considered factor)I got "layed-off" from one of my past jobs. It is not me who has epilepsy, but rather my daughter, so there our similarities end. :) Anyway, I thought I'd welcome you (a fellow Canuk)to the site as well. It is a great site.

Hi There, Well, if you're ever stuck for work in IT, I'm told I live in the IT-Triangle (Tri-Cities Area - KW). Between the 'boys club' politics in marketing/sales and not having a license keeping me out of consulting though I'm debating putting my degree in sociology/criminology to use and maybe being a corporate law clerk/assistant or somethin'. Who knows. What ever you do though, always tell your daughter to reach for the stars & chase her dreams. Anything can be done. I didn't talk until I was 3 and overcame visual spacial disorders and even with a seizure every few months I'm still doing ok. Just wish epilepsy ontario would help out with my meds as I transition jobs, but who knows? By the way - dunno where you are in ON. However, I remember as a little kid McMaster being the hospital of choice. Now, I see great doctor's at St.Mike's-Queen East Toronto. Wishing you & your daughter well, and thx for the welcome :) EC
