My Child has BRE

Mon, 09/25/2006 - 22:25
HI, My daughter was diagnosed with BRE 4 months ago. She has had 3 seizures before she was put on medicine which is Trileptal which seems to be working for her. Her first two were worse thatn her 3 rd one. She vomits with her seizures and drools a lot. Hard for her to breath which is so scary to watch. Her first two where over 6 minutes and the third did not last as long. I would love to hear from any other Mom;s that children have the same disorder or any Mom's that children have outgrown this which is what out Dr.'s prognosis is. Thank you.

Here is some info on Benign

Here is some info on Benign Rolandic Epilepsy: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/epilepsy_benignrolandic.html "In almost every case, the seizures stop on their own by age 15." Please, while you hope they disappear (as do all) don't depend on that happening as there are exceptions to every rule. I had E since I was 3, & my mother was told my E would likely end (some do) and she thrived on that conclusion. Suffice it to say it never happened that way & I never felt accepted by my parents due to my epielpsy. True love knows no bounds, so for now learn to accept epilepsy (there is always far worse) and show your daughter you love her - as much as possible. Don't let her see you upset or it will just add to her guilty feeling (been there) & teach her about epilepsy so she will understand her situation. Here is a page of more sights http://search.sympatico.msn.ca/results.aspx?q=Benign+rolandic+epilepsy&geovar=894&FORM=REDIR I wish you and your daughter the best ~sol

Thank you for your words of wisdom. Yes, there are far worse things out there but like you know when it happens to your own it hurts. I am sorry that your parents were hindred by your epilepsy. It sounds from your message that you are a stong, smart and inteligent person who has moved on! Thanks for the advice and as always we will pug away! Take care.
