Muscle twitches with TLE?

Sat, 04/22/2006 - 15:35
Hi folks. Still trying to learn to recognize simple and complex partials following my rather recent diagnosis of TLE. I recognize the deja vu, speech problems, spacing out, etc, and my husband says I sometimes do the lip smacking, but there are a few other things I am not sure of. (Bear in mind that I had a Grand mal on March 25 and have been on Keppra only a few weeks, so i am still probably adjusting and coming down off some sort of "peak" of elecrical activity.) So the question is, can these be related to TLE? 1) Muscle twitches and tingling: One week before my grand mal and subsequent diagnosis, my entire left arm was prickly and tingly off and on for a few days. And, in the past week or so, I have had a return of the tinglies. But yesterday, my left arm was positively VIBRATING. Not like a muscle spasm, but vibrating at a frequency I didn't know was possible! I could talk and think just fine, and even said to a coworker, "Say, do you see that?" (She was freaked out, but that's another issue). It came and went about half a dozen times that day. Also, a couple of nights ago my left leg jerked violently several times while I was reading in bed. 2) Heart palpitations: I have had LOTS of these over the past couple of months, one that seemed to go on forever. They are usually accompanied by sudden fear, but I think it's just because violent heart movements are scary. They don't hurt. Most of what I read about TLE partials are mental, speech, perception, memory, and emotional manifestations. Is it possible to get muscle twitching and heart palpitations with simple partial TLE seizures? Thanks for sharing your experiences or links to other resources! :) --Jules

What you all have described are Simple Partial seizures which are common to have with TLE. (I have TLE and have them too.) Here are some links that may help. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/epilepsy_temporallobe.html Take care! -Spiz
