Muscle twitches with TLE?

Sat, 04/22/2006 - 15:35
Hi folks. Still trying to learn to recognize simple and complex partials following my rather recent diagnosis of TLE. I recognize the deja vu, speech problems, spacing out, etc, and my husband says I sometimes do the lip smacking, but there are a few other things I am not sure of. (Bear in mind that I had a Grand mal on March 25 and have been on Keppra only a few weeks, so i am still probably adjusting and coming down off some sort of "peak" of elecrical activity.) So the question is, can these be related to TLE? 1) Muscle twitches and tingling: One week before my grand mal and subsequent diagnosis, my entire left arm was prickly and tingly off and on for a few days. And, in the past week or so, I have had a return of the tinglies. But yesterday, my left arm was positively VIBRATING. Not like a muscle spasm, but vibrating at a frequency I didn't know was possible! I could talk and think just fine, and even said to a coworker, "Say, do you see that?" (She was freaked out, but that's another issue). It came and went about half a dozen times that day. Also, a couple of nights ago my left leg jerked violently several times while I was reading in bed. 2) Heart palpitations: I have had LOTS of these over the past couple of months, one that seemed to go on forever. They are usually accompanied by sudden fear, but I think it's just because violent heart movements are scary. They don't hurt. Most of what I read about TLE partials are mental, speech, perception, memory, and emotional manifestations. Is it possible to get muscle twitching and heart palpitations with simple partial TLE seizures? Thanks for sharing your experiences or links to other resources! :) --Jules

Hi there, I was diagnosed almost 8 years ago with Epilepsy, more recently with TLE, I think I know what you mean - I get a twitch on the side of my mouth and sometimes on the tip of my nose - and it actually almost itches! i have noticed that they happen when i am a little bit stressed and over tired. Thanks and good luck!

Hey, I know where you are coming from. I was diagnosed 3 years ago after a grand-mal. I have TLE also. I get a weird feeling, dizzness, and numbness of my fingers, leg or feet. I have tremors really bad at times. I feel like everyone thinks I am making it up because they don't understand. My family knows what is going on though. I had one at work the other day ( I work at a clinic ). My neuro doc is downstairs from me. He was out, so my co-workers took me down to the family practice doc. I had dizziness, spaced out feeling, although I knew what was going on. I couldn't get my words out or remember how to say them. He told me I had inner-ear and sent me home with antivert. i did'nt get it filled, I knew that wasn't what was wrong. I was very emotional also, crying for no reason. Acting out of character. I went home at 2pm and slept until 6 am the next day. Then I felt better. All of your symptoms are normal even if others don't understand. --------cindy
