Epilepsy and Food

Tue, 05/12/2009 - 17:00

Hi,

I am 26 years old and was diagnosed 4 months ago with generalized Epilepsy but have had grand mal seizures for 15 years of my life. Im on Keppra 2,000mg a day and doing great. Some side effects like headaches but no biggie. Anyways, I never went to a neurologist (until January this year) becuase I would link my seizures either to my period or food. I have noticed that my seizures get worse when I eat a lot or when I eat greasy food. Luckily I get deja vus, auras and I just feel I will get a seizure which mostly happen at night. My neurologist says that there are no food restrictions with epilepsy, but I just feel weird when I eat a lot or eat greasy meals. Has this happened to anyone? Please let me know.

BTW - I think this website is awesome. Having lived through many grand mals in my life and still be here telling my story has made me count my blessings. I always try to repeat to myself that my higher power does not give me something I cannot handle :)  Good luck to all!

Thanks,

Adrilu

Then happened again about an hour or so after. Also, my neuro told me to take  Motrin/ ibprofein for headaches/Migraines

I am 24 years old. Epilepsy runs in my family, but I didn't began to have them until I was nine when I was was diagnosed with PNET.After I was placed on medicine and did not began until I was sixteen. Since then I have been placed on different anti-conlvolsion medcine. So many that after taking my polls I would become high for hours. It stopped my seizures but I did not like the side effect. It started to get to the point where my body would go into convolution if I were a couple hours later taking my polls because I had something important to do and didn't want to become high off my medicine. I decided it has to be better way. I decided to eat healthier and drink a lot of fluids which helped my body to function better without having to take so many pills. I noted stress, things I found weird and certain thoughts triggered most of my seizures. Avoiding and learning to calm myself in certain situations was another key. I now don't have to take so many pills. My last dosage was six pills a day twice a day. Now I take them when a arura comes. I would advise anyone to stop taking the medicine but I'm on five hundred mg of kepra that helps prevent seizures Not stop them completely. So I had to learn my body so I could take less meds and have less seizures. Its mostly in how you eat and your activities.

Hello, my name is Earnest Mitchell. I have seizures since the day of my birth. 4 hours after I was born that is. Had 1 at the age of 7. Spend a month in the hospital. I couldn't eat anything not even a bowl of soup. It came back at the age of 13 and now I'm 36. I still have them i take kappa 750 twice a day. I have discover the main cause of all our seizures. It is "Sodium" a.k.a. (SALT). The sodium is over ,400 mgs any any food containing this amount even cheese or salty meats, tacos, hamburgers, etc. Will start a seizure and stress. will be a real bad. this has happened to me already. I was able to keep my memory this time. Remember "Sodium" is what starts the Seizure everytime
