skin rash with Trileptal?

Mon, 08/08/2005 - 23:52
OK, I have been on Trileptal for about 30 days now, and I have got this itchy rash that started on my forearms, and is now moving to the trunk of my body. It itches like crazy! Has anyone else reacted to Trileptal this way? If you did, what did your rash look like? The only reason why I'm asking is this: I have also done some yard work in the last two weeks, and I am wondering if it's poison ivy (which I've never had before either.) From what I understand, the gestation period for Trileptal is about 19-20 days, so it's more than likely I am allergic to it. Anyone else have this reaction? I have my appt. with my neurologist on Thursday, so hopefully we'll figure it out. Let me know!

I saw my epileptologist yesterday, and because the rash on my forearms is actually healing (and not getting worse) he thinks it's still a topical thing.....I had been working in my yard around the end of July, right around the same time of the gestation period for this medication. SOOOO, I may have poison ivy! BUT if it doesn't go away, and gets worse now that my dose has increased, then we know for sure that its the med. Does anyone know what poison ivy looks like? I've never had it!!!Thanks for all the replies....Megan

Hi MEGAN,

You said you go to an epileptologist.

I'm not to happy with my neurologist. He is completely oblivious to my problems I have had with my side effects while being on Trileptal for the last year. Rash, chest pains, breathing difficulties. I never knew there was such a specialist. Where did you find your specialist ?

Thanks for any comments,

Brigette

You might consider going to a comprehensive epilepsy center, as you are more likely to find an epileptologist who specializes in caring for people with epilepsy. Below are a few links you may find helpful
