Hi, once again the Drs had to switch my meds because of a allergic reaction to Depakote. I broke out in hives.....I have hives places i never knew hives would go. The dr now put me on Neurontin. Does anyone have any experience with this med? Any side effects I should watch out for? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I pray I dont have an allergic reaction to this lke I have had with the others(Keppra, trileptal and now depakote). Thank you Karen

Aussie2006, Thank you for taking the time to respond.I do realize everyones body responds differently to all medicines. So far all I am noticing with this med is I am very drunk feeling after I take it and actually have to lay down for awhile.Yesterday when I took my morning dose I was so "drunk" feeling I was walking into walls and stumbling around. I am hoping this will go away after awhile. I am suppose to call my dr this afternoon to give him an update on the allergic reaction I had and to let him know how this dose is working. Thanks again, Karen

Hi Karen, I took Neurontin for years and didn't have any side effects at all. Is that the only medicine you're taking? My neurologist told me it works better if taken with another medication, as opposed to on its own. He loved neurontin. My neurologist sent me to an epileptologist in '03 after finding a mass of dead tissue in my RTL, and one of the first things she did was pull me off of neurontin. She doesn't like it and says she's noticed that it actually causes more seizures in a lot of her patients. I don't think it did in my particular case, but she didn't want to take the chance, especially considering what they'd found. Talk about feeling drunk...try Lamictal. I'm taking that now, and if I don't eat right before it, I can't hardly move. Double vision, nausea, can't walk straight, etc. It's the WORST! Your doc may have started you on too high of a dose. You'll get used to it. Try eating before you take it, too.

Carrie, Thank you for sharing yor experience with me. I am waiting for a call back from the dr so I will see what they say. I do eat before I take my meds just because I have always had a problem with upset stomach with all my meds. Thanks again. Karen
