Keppra or CBD?

Mon, 09/11/2017 - 20:15
Hello! Advice needed ASAP! I'll give you a quick run down I am 24 years old and recently diagnosed with generalized epilepsy. Being diagnosed is literallu my biggest fear coming true ive always been afraid of having seziures and all these years ive had minor moments of blackkng out but never thought tbey were seziures until this year theyve gotten worse and my EEG showed seziure activity on both sides of my brain. My neuro prescribed me 500mg keppra (generic form) twice a day to start but I am so scared to start it due to everything I've read and heard about it and it's side effects. I've done research on CBD and wanted to give it a try but I don't know how effective it will be. I just want to do something that I know will work, also I had recently been trying to conceive and am worried what my new diagnoses means for TTC. Any advice on ether keppra or CBD would be great. Thanks in advance.

I‘m new to this Epilepsy

Submitted by LaGallina on Thu, 2017-10-19 - 16:29
I‘m new to this Epilepsy thing too. My understanding is that it’s different for everyone.I was trying to be open minded about taking seizure medication but the side effects (felt like I was a tweaker on mushrooms) are worse than the seizures and I have them almost every day. I take 400mg CBD oil and it helps take the edge off. I have a sense of complete unexplainable  fear before my seizures, which is the worse part and if I have enough sense before that to take the CBD I can skip that part of the seizure and can recover more quickly from it. At the end of the day It’s up to you. Don’t let people talk you into anything you don’t want to do, at least that’s the lesson I learned the hard way during my epilepsy journey. I’m going back to my original plan which is ketogentic diet, exercise, acupuncture, and herbs!

I have been using CBD since

I have been using CBD since August when I finally gave up on seizure medicine. I have tried 10, including Keppra which had the worst effect on me!  Even though it is scary at first taking CBD since there isn't really any research on it and no one knows what dose will work for them, it isn't any scarier than trying a new seizure medication. Especially if those medications make you sick or try to kill you. It took about a month and a half of taking CBD for it to start to help. I heard that it starts working after a certain amount of time unique to that person because CBD has to heal you endocannibinoid system before it can help anything else. So be patient. After that I didn't have a seizure for 4 weeks (normally I have 3-5 a week). I have had seizures for the past 2 weeks but I think it is because I have been so stressed out. I have realized that I am recovering from my seizures REALLY fast. I even had a grand mal and it only took about a day for me to recover, instead of weeks or months! I am still on my CBD journey because I don't really know what I'm doing (but no one does let's be honest). Check out my blog if you want to know more about my journey with doses and brands of seizure medicine. www.epilepsybabe.com I also have a YouTube channel, same name.
