Eyesight problems on Topamax
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 15:29I have been on Topamax for a few months and have developed "after-images". My eyes will hang on to an image and it will stay in my vision for a few seconds until it fades even though I'm looking somewhere else.
I also have trailing images from moving objects. I've also got awful double vision (from about 10+ feet away) but my neurologist seemed to doubt that it was true double vision as it was still present when he covered one of my eyes. It made me feel as though I was making it up!
Anyone else got this problem? I'm presuming it is the Topamax causing this as it is constant so I know its not a seizure.
I hope I have explained the "after-image" thing ok, not an easy thing to explain.
I am on 600mg of Topirmate

I am on 600mg of Topirmate (genreric for Topamax) for Migraines and Seizures. I have been on that level for almost 10 years. I have had cataract surgery on both eyes 4 /3 years ago. My first cataract was somewhat noticed when I was 30 when I went in for my first of glasses. The Ophthalmologists just did not know what the little black dot was on my left eye. So, 10 years later I went in for another pair of glasses and a different Ophthalmologists and they where able to detect what it was and remove it. They also realize during surgery that I had one developing on m right eye. I had to wait till the next for that one to be removed. So, can such a drug like Topimate cause such a thing as cataracts? I am also on two other medications for Seizures both at 600mg each. Zonisamide (generic Zonegran) andl Lamotrigine (generic Lamictal).
