Hi I'm New!

Hi everyone! I'm meowpuppy and i am new to this site. I have a seven-year old son who has epilepsy. He takes one teaspoon of Trileptal twice daily. This controls his seizures totally. We have noticed, however, that the medication seems to cause him to be clumsy, slow, and kind of, well, mentally challenged at school. It takes forever to complete the most basic homework assignment. We must explain things over and over again. Don't get me wrong, i am so blessed that his seizures have stopped, but i wonder if there might be a medication which can stop the seizures without causing such a mental drain. His neurologist says that 2 teaspoons a day should not cause this trouble but i know this is a different child then the intelligent boy i first sent off to school. Does anyone have any info on this phenomenon?

my daughter was also on trileptal until last week, and I have noticed a big change in her since she has stopped taking it, lauren started it in Feb of 2006 and by Sept of 2006 she started having absence seizures, trouble in math, behavior problems, aggressive, and angry also. Since she has stopped she is finally getting back to being my little girl again, now she is on just keppra, and so far I am not noticing any major side effects. Would love to hear from anyone else who has had this kind of experience with trileptal. Some advice, I can give you, is make sure your neuro listens to your fears and does not just blow them off, as if they dont' exist, I made that mistake, and now wish I had gotten stubborn sooner. Mom to Lauren age 9,

Hello, I am so glad to hear Lauren is doing better off the trileptal. My 9 yr old daughter Ariana was having the same exact problems. Partial seizures, aggressive, angry, schoolwork issues, etc. Her doctor started to introduce Lamictal and was going to wean her off the trileptal but she got "the rash" after three doses of the lamictal. He waited a few weeks and today i have to call him and he will start her on something else. I cant wait to get her off the trileptal and i'm hoping my good little girl comes back too. Good luck to you! shar
