atonic seassures?! help please

Tue, 04/23/2013 - 02:28
Hi!
I have a son who is 3 years 3 months old, about two months ago when having temperature around 38,5 C he fell on the floor after sneezing, he sneezed and fell to the front, he was straight, like a "wooden board", he didn't colapse like he is fainting but he didn't use hands to protect himself...and he was conscious the whole time, it lasted only a second and he was fine afterwords...I thought he lost his balance because of the sneezing and temperature...but two weeks ago, it happened again, he was sitting down (in the kindergarten) and he fell forward to his forehead, he was conscious and even answered a kindergarten teacher's questions a second before...it lasted a second or two again and he was conscious, he also had temperature around 38 c.
We went to see neuropediatrician yesterday, she wants us to do EEG, she thinks it's a atonic seissure. I read about those seissures and saw some you tube videos, it doesn't look like that to me, he didn't colapse to the floor like he became limb...His father (35) has type 1 diabetes since he was 15.

I read that seassures can have conection with diabetes too. Though he has no diabetes
symptomes...
Sorry for my grammar mistakes, I live in Croatia/Europe
Thanks a lot.

My son has atonic seizure (drop attack) and yes, he could fall face down to the ground straight to the front, like a "wooden board" (I think he fell from the ankles when his seizure is worse). (Otherwise he fell from the knees or from the hips or from the shoulder). So please do the EEG to make sure that your child doesn't have seizures, sometimes you have to do the 24hr EEG instead of the overnight EEG to be more accurate too.
