atonic seassures?! help please

Tue, 04/23/2013 - 02:28
Hi!
I have a son who is 3 years 3 months old, about two months ago when having temperature around 38,5 C he fell on the floor after sneezing, he sneezed and fell to the front, he was straight, like a "wooden board", he didn't colapse like he is fainting but he didn't use hands to protect himself...and he was conscious the whole time, it lasted only a second and he was fine afterwords...I thought he lost his balance because of the sneezing and temperature...but two weeks ago, it happened again, he was sitting down (in the kindergarten) and he fell forward to his forehead, he was conscious and even answered a kindergarten teacher's questions a second before...it lasted a second or two again and he was conscious, he also had temperature around 38 c.
We went to see neuropediatrician yesterday, she wants us to do EEG, she thinks it's a atonic seissure. I read about those seissures and saw some you tube videos, it doesn't look like that to me, he didn't colapse to the floor like he became limb...His father (35) has type 1 diabetes since he was 15.

I read that seassures can have conection with diabetes too. Though he has no diabetes
symptomes...
Sorry for my grammar mistakes, I live in Croatia/Europe
Thanks a lot.

Sleep deprivation can definitely be a contributor, but so can the video games.  Some people have light sensitivities.  Ask your son about his fainting spells.  It feels quite different to seize and faint.  The diet change could also be helpful.  Surgery stopped my seizures, but diet change stopped my fainting.  I take B12 and vitamin D.

Thanks a lot for your answer...I hope your son gets better and never gets another seizure...

my son is doing  his first eeg this morning so we will see what is the next step...i never before noticed anything...he never does "staring" (a doctor asked us yesterday), he never fainted or colapsed in any way before..just these two times during fever....i now about high protein diet...i'm also experimenting with lchf diet (low carb high fat)...

I have very difficult time exepting he might be having epilepsy and also getting drugs (he is 3 years old, this is the time when his brain is in peak of his development...(between years 3 and 5 )...:(
