stop criminalizing epilepsy

Wed, 02/03/2016 - 16:38

looking to start the above campaign : stop criminalizing epilepsy. too many adults with epilepsy find themselves in jail/prison due to a seizure in public being interpreted as resisting arrest.etc. let alone the numerous AEDs that cause fits of rage,Keppra is notorious for doing so. the statistics are outrageous for the number of people in prison with epilepsy, their affliction having put them there. when are these bad drugs going to be taken off the market. i get the impression that they're used as a cattle prod so that adults with epilepsy will end up there. why else are there so few of us out and about when it is not so rare a condition.?

Amy Jo The seizures I have today are focal seizures lasting a few seconds/ I take a medication right after the seizure to keep it from clustering. So would the VNS help me when I have a seizure every 8-14 days? I can be talking to you and standing in front of you and you would no nothing about the seizure. I might stop for a few seconds while talking but I pick up right where I left off and my regular doc didn't know it was a seizure. He thought I was thinking of which word I wanted to use. Since the same seizures I had in his office years ago lasted 5-8 minutes and recovery time was 15-45 minutes

mine is intractable, had it since i was a baby, got sterilized as was the custom in some states back then. even Sheriff  Parmelau (sic) has reported that the jail is used to warehouse people it was never designed to,and how law enforcement need better training to handle seizures. doctors complain of shackled/handcuffed patients and police refusal to remove em.
