Repeated word/phrase stuck in my head

Sat, 06/24/2006 - 12:29
I've notice recently that I'll be thinking about something and then one of the words or pharases will repeat in my head for hours or sometimes all day. This will also happen with a song, which will repeat NON-STOP for up to 2 days. Then another song will be picked up for a day or so. I will wake up with this song or hear it in my dreams. It drives me crazy! I don't know if this is some funny new thing that has started up recently or if I just didn't notice it until I started having Partial Seizures in February. Perhaps it used to happen, but I've only recently noticed because I'm so sensitive about the workings of my mind/brain since these seizures started happening. I was wondering if any of you experienced this and does anybody think this might be related to my seizures? PS - I've also started having memory problems, but it seems to soon too already be experiencing that. I do have about 3-5 CPS/SPS each week, but this just started 2/1/06. ? ? ? Thanks, Reb

Although i have been szr free for over 3 years i know the feeling you are talking about only too well. Often not long before a szr i would get a phrase or song jammed in my head and it was if the constant repetition of this song or phrase in an almost mantra like fashion would put off the szr for a certain length of time, often until i had managed to make myself safe. I stress that these were not phrases or songs that i had chosen they just forced their way into my brain and stayed there for a couple of days. Next time around it was something completely different. This only happened to me while i was taking epilim and tegretol together, which was for about a year and a half.

HipChic Yeah, it's like a mantra for me, too. It is annoying!! I'll get a phrase of a song or a sentence I heard on TV. What's worse, is I have a 2yr old boy, just learning to talk! He repeats things constantly! So, I work with it, use it as a form of meditation. When I do this, I find I can change the song or phrase, and by playing with him it tends to dissapate.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else had been able to use this feeling and experience as a meditative tool. I thought for quite a while that by constant repetition i could control the onset of a szr if not for good, then at least until i was relatively safe e.g. able to lay in the first aid room at work with a trained first aider with me. It only started to happen to me when i had reached the peak of my szr occurrence, when i was younger it was face down on the pavement no warning. I always thought that this feeling had been part of my meds muddled mind (try saying that after a few drinks) good to know it wasn't just my imagination.
