Nighttime seizure activity

Thu, 08/24/2006 - 07:01
Hi all. I am starting to suspect nocturnal seizures based on a pattern of waking feeling a surge of panic/fear, then going right back to sleep only to awake a little while later w/ the same feeling. Took me two hours to get into a deep sleep b/c this happened for so long last night. It even happened while I was drowsy and laying in bed waiting for my husband to come to bed. I have read that noc seizures are often tonic-clonic. I only appear to have simple partials, so is it possible these are also simple-partials? Does anyone else experience this and if so, what can you tell me? Thanks, Sam

I do have seizures at night but usually right before I go to sleep. But I only have complex partial seizures and simple partials. I bought a anti-suffocation pillow for I was starting to get scared at night, because I was changing meds alot. http://www.sleep-safe.co.uk/id90.htm Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach1/

Sam and others, Thank you so much for posting this. I have a nonverbal, severely delayed 19 year old daughter who has had this EXACT thing going on. At first I thought it might be an anxiety disorder but how can you get panic attacks in your sleep? The neurologist poo-pooed this and didn't think it was seizures but for a short period of time she was put on Zonegran and guess what? They stopped. She's not taking Zonegran anymore because it totally killed her appetite but if anyone is looking for a med to treat these episodes, try Zonegran. And thanks again so much for posting.

I wouldn't recommend to someone to take a sleeping medication without asking their doctor first.
