New One For Me.....

Tue, 05/23/2006 - 22:15
I had a seizure early this afternoon that was a new one for me. It was so odd and I was aware all the way through it. I felt weird but alert. It felt like all the joints in my body locked up but I wasn't aware of feeling 'stiff' like I have felt in some seizures. I was aware that I was staring straight ahead but on looking back, I'm not aware of seeing anything while staring either. I had the sensation of tipping over like a board would tip over. This may not have been how it looked, but it is how is felt. I knew I was tipping over but didn't feel and emotion - fear or panic - at all. When I hit the floor, I heard rather than felt my shoulder pop, but I heard it inside my head rather than with my ears. I didn't feel any pain. I'm not sure how long the seizure lasted, I'm not aware of any sense of time but after it passed, the only pain I felt was the sensation that my brain hurt and then I fell asleep, like I do after having a T/C. With a T/C, I usually will sleep 1-2 hours but I slept 4 hours after this one. (And once awake, I was very aware of the pain in my shoulder!) Has anyone ever had one like this and/or know what type it is? I looked up Tonic seizure but it seems like my arms were at my sides and not over my head as the description of a tonic lists. Thank you! -Spiz

Spiz: How scary for you, and unbeleivably painful. I have your typical tonic clonic, so I can not relate, but do sympathize. My most common injury is biting the bajeebers out of my tongue, and going on a liquid diet til it heals. I get your typical bruises, and bumps. Fortunately, my S. are nocturnal, so in addition to hurting myself, I can do a real number on my surroundings. Broken lamp, etc... Lucky for me my hubby is a retired cop, so nothing shocks him. He is my angel, for when I come out of my "trip" he is there to assure me that all is right with the world, even my active brain. stay in touch to compare war wounds. Gwen

Spiz, Here is my symphaty to you! It's sounds very scary and painful! But I also like a Gwen have tonic-clonic with no aura. My injuries depend on where I am at the time. They are very rare and usually in the morning. I had different traumas: biting the tongue, hitting my head, bruises, dislocated jaw-3 times!!! and during the last seizure I hit the wall very hard with my shoulder. It was very painful and the shoulder still make the poppyng sound. Get well! Natalya.
