New One For Me.....

Tue, 05/23/2006 - 22:15
I had a seizure early this afternoon that was a new one for me. It was so odd and I was aware all the way through it. I felt weird but alert. It felt like all the joints in my body locked up but I wasn't aware of feeling 'stiff' like I have felt in some seizures. I was aware that I was staring straight ahead but on looking back, I'm not aware of seeing anything while staring either. I had the sensation of tipping over like a board would tip over. This may not have been how it looked, but it is how is felt. I knew I was tipping over but didn't feel and emotion - fear or panic - at all. When I hit the floor, I heard rather than felt my shoulder pop, but I heard it inside my head rather than with my ears. I didn't feel any pain. I'm not sure how long the seizure lasted, I'm not aware of any sense of time but after it passed, the only pain I felt was the sensation that my brain hurt and then I fell asleep, like I do after having a T/C. With a T/C, I usually will sleep 1-2 hours but I slept 4 hours after this one. (And once awake, I was very aware of the pain in my shoulder!) Has anyone ever had one like this and/or know what type it is? I looked up Tonic seizure but it seems like my arms were at my sides and not over my head as the description of a tonic lists. Thank you! -Spiz

Gosh - all that stuff about popping your arm back into place sounds REALLY painful !!! YIKES !!! I am so glad you got it taken care of though ! I looked up "vestibular" seizures and found the following: "Vestibular seizures originate from various areas, including frontal and temporal-parietal-occipital junction. Symptoms include vertigo, a tilting sensation, and vague dizziness." Sound like the right thing? Barb, Maybe that's where the tipping over like a board sensation came from. And it's a seizure? Get to add that one to the list of ones I've never heard of. I know SP is simple partial and GSP is generalized simple partial. Would GSPS be generalized simple partial seizure? That's the only thing I can think of that last S standing for. Shock of shocks, the neuro didn't call back so I couldn't ask him. I'm hurting, not going to lie, but am resting as much as possible. Smiles and Hugs! -Spiz

Spiz I'm so sorry but I had to chuckle when you said easing your dislocation wasn't all that bad. Were you by chance sedated? If you weren't? Know that is protocol, you should have been. I worked in the ER for a year and would do nearly anything to not be the nurse assisting when a shoulder, elbow. knee or hip was popped back in. I've jammed two fingers, 3 toes and screamed when they only pulled on them hard to unjam them. Then I vomited. Guess I'm not a brick. The procedure of relocation always seemed like medieval medicine to me - like being on the rack. This ortho sounds good enough to travel to! That is extremely painful before, during relocation (shiver), and after. The tendons, muscles attached to your bones get stretched too plus many people don't realize that bone pain is considered by most doctors, the worst kind of pain. Or, am I giving you new info? PAIN PILLS! Well, good grief. You scored! Vestibular? Ummm....isn't that part of a church's building - I'm KIDDING. Thankfully we have Barbie. Gretchen
