mood swings and seizures

Wed, 03/22/2006 - 07:50
Goodmorning, Joyce Here: I have noticed the last two seizures I have had there was some moodyness before and after. Is this a normal thing and does any one else get the same way? With my headaches I have noticed some changes with my mood and sleep patterns, I have only been able too get around 4-5 hours of sleep a night. Any idea's as to how I can get more then that without having to take any over the counter sleeping aids? I know that with my first semester exam around the corner has certianly added to the stress I have been trying to deal with. I am very afraid that I wont pass, I am not a ready as I should be, and my ability to remain focused on my studies has not been very good. I am determined though too finish this and do my best to get my Associate's degree. I will be posting my story hopefully by Friday and hope many of you will read it. Untill later, Joyce

Hey Joyce. I probably get about 4 or 5 hours of sleep at a time. My sleep cycle is way off, and some of the medications I take cause insomnia. I've had insomnia for a few years now, and at first I tried every suggestion I received to no avail. I've accepted that sometimes I just can't fall asleep so instead of worrying about it, I do something productive. I get much of my studying done this way, staying up usually until 5am, sleeping until 9am, and occasionally taking naps after I get home from school. It's not a good sleep schedule to have, but sometimes it's better to go along with it and get things done than stress out about it. I hope you get a good night's rest very soon! -Jeni.

Hi Joyce - About your mood swings & sleep problems: thats interesting because not 30 min ago I was talking about that w/someone. I have been very moody (and I'm not normally a moody person) the past couple of days, along with a constant headache. In fact, it goes beyond just moody, I'm agitated and feel like something very bad is going to happen. Also, I am waking up in middle of night and not able to get back to sleep, which isn't like me either. I'm under stress right now too. Also my doc messed up my meds and I didn't notice for a couple of days, which I admit wasn't very smart of me (he gave me reg Tegretol instead of Teg XR, which made me OD a little bit and got me pretty sick, so I skipped a dose from feeling ill). Both of these things have me anticipating a seizure. It was just a minute ago that I realized that I've had these symptoms before and had a seizure afterward - not everytime, but on occasion. It wasn't until now that I really put them together. I'll be suprised if I get by w/o one this time. I really hate it - its really kind of worse anticipating it like this. I also know how you feel with school. I've been going on and off for more than a decade (!!!), and often I've had to leave for awhile because I got sick from the stress. Of course, professors rarely understand that you're getting legitimately sick, which only makes it worse. But hang in there. I am returning to school this summer semester after having been out for 2 years, and I only have NINE HOURS LEFT and then I will have my BFA!!! Yay! Then, I plan on going for one more year to get my Masters in Education, and then I SWEAR, I will become a teacher!!! I will! =) So don't give up. Even if it takes you longer to do it, or if it just seems impossible sometimes, you'll do it. You will! =D
