Insomnia and anxiety with seizures

Mon, 08/06/2007 - 13:34
I have complex partial & simple partial seizures and when I have seizures I have this extreme anxiety and insomina. Now I only experience this when I have the complex partial seizures. I start to feel this anxiousness as the sun sets and I feel it all night until the sun rises. I feel that I have to keep the TV on because I don't want to be in the quiet dark. I'll put my TV on sleep timer, but as soon as it shuts off I wake up and have to turn it back on. When I do fall asleep it's maybe for an hour at the most but usually I doze for about 15-20 minutes at a time throughout the night. I usually have a seizure during the night or first thing in the morning. I was wondering if anyone else experiences anything like this and if so how do you deal with the loss of sleep and the anxiety? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jodi

Hi Hava..I had my licensed taken once for 3 months..and it was not nice!  Fortunately, I've only ever had two grand mal seizures and they were both at night.  With my complex partial seizures, I don't lose consciousness, so I can still drive.  But the anxiety is very frustrating isn't it?  The racing heart when all you want to do is relax and go to sleep?  Like I said Lorazapam is the only thing that relaxes me enough to sleep.  Maybe you need to have the doctor prescribe something for your anxiety.
