Insomnia and anxiety with seizures

Mon, 08/06/2007 - 13:34
I have complex partial & simple partial seizures and when I have seizures I have this extreme anxiety and insomina. Now I only experience this when I have the complex partial seizures. I start to feel this anxiousness as the sun sets and I feel it all night until the sun rises. I feel that I have to keep the TV on because I don't want to be in the quiet dark. I'll put my TV on sleep timer, but as soon as it shuts off I wake up and have to turn it back on. When I do fall asleep it's maybe for an hour at the most but usually I doze for about 15-20 minutes at a time throughout the night. I usually have a seizure during the night or first thing in the morning. I was wondering if anyone else experiences anything like this and if so how do you deal with the loss of sleep and the anxiety? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jodi

I have to take Lorazapam at night to calm me, my anxiety is so high at night.  It's the only thing that helps. I've tried to get off it but I acutally started having more seizures.  I have complex partial seizures and I take Tegretol and Topomax.

Hi! I had a focul seizure on Wednesday at my office. It was quite weird because I was not at home, and my husband was at work. I came out of the seizure very emotional and tired. That usually happens anyway. I can relate to the anxiet, and not sleeping. This is the first time that I couldn't sleep, and I had the worst anxiety. I told my husband, and he wondered why. Also, my heart was racing, and had trouble trying to sleep. Maybe I slept for a 4 hrs. here and there last night but not much. I am on Lamictal, and Keppra. They were trying to change my medications because the Keppra was making me sleepy. I am so frustrated with having Epilepsy. I am sick and tired of having to worry about a seizure happening. So, for now because I am based in NY the law says that I have to be seizure free for 6mths until I can drive again. That it is the worst because I don't live in NYC, and there isn't alot of buses or trains to get me from one point to the other. Very frustrating. Write back if you want.
