I have had the VNS for a year and a half now and it is the best thing I have ever had done. I have had a very positive experience with mine. My neuro was the first to tell me however, that it works for some people and some people it does not. The other response that you got about contacting cyberonics...that is great advice! And I would do that. But really on a personal note I must say: GO FOR IT!! And if you have any questions please feel free to email me at: justbearlie@midsouth.rr.com Best of Luck!!

It is considered to be one of the best tactic to stop sp's and cp's other than certain cannabinoids. This is only available in England right now though in a spray form. Maybe your country deals better with newer drugs than the US and you can get treatment in other ways. I have though about VNS, however I'm not sure I want an implant in my head for one and a second thought is that I likie being able to talk and losing that would be equal to the disabilities and annoyances I already have. I have personally decided it is probably not the best course of action for myself due to it's rather high non-success rate. Overall the success rate is not good at all, but then again as you previously stated neither are any of the medications for certain types. It sounds as if a type of myoclonic seizure seems to be bothering you with saying the cp's. These people do have the highest success rate with the VNS implant so if you have a form of Myoclonic Epilepsy I would say it may be useful though I wouldn't suggest it. There are just too many risks involved with no guarantee of success. Diagnosed with Progressive Myoclonic Epilepsy(out-of-state) and since been deemed disabled after 22 yrs. of fighting in the State of Indiana. 6 mgs Clonazepam, Medical Marijuana prescribed by another state that seems to be able to treat epileptics.
