starting school im terrified for him

Mon, 08/30/2004 - 05:58

My son caleb is 5 . He started to have seziures at 3. He was diagnosed with 'Pediatric idiopathic epilepsy" .I'm worried he will go to school and get away from his teachers and wander around lost.Sometimes its so bad its all I think about for hours at a time. I control myself when he's around because I dont want him to get as worried as I am. He can't wait to start. How do I let him go? I know he has to go but what if something happens, the only school that would take him is half way across town and would take almost 30 min. to get to him. I need some advice on how to handle my feeling without ruining the start of his school life.

Hi,

I went to the school the other day and Caleb did his Kindergarten screening. While he was doing that I went to the office to do the Medical Confrence that is required . While i was in there with the nurse another little girl had a mild seizure, and I got a look at how the faculty would respond to it. That has been one of my biggest concern. Well now most of my unease has gone. I was so imprewssed with there calm cool and collected way to go about things. I shamelessly followed to the class and watched the whole thing . The principal even dropped everything and rushed to the little girls side and had her cell phone with her so she could call her mom. I followed her back to the office and watched how they took care of her and there whole demenur and was overjoyed to find this school. On the way back to get Caleb i passed by the class and the teacher was having a decision on seizures and there effects to calm down the class. I was crying by the time i left. Hey i looked stupid but last night was the first night with no nightmares so thats alright to.

I know it wont be the same with Caleb but the care is there.

O.K. that sounds dumb but it wont be the same because Calebs seizures arent the nolrmal kind. his DONT STOP on there own. not even like i've heard of some people that have them back to back ---his are conitnous. his longest one was 4 and 1/2 hrs. he now has a Diastat order for the onset of a seizure i have to wait fifteen minutes from when i gave him the diastsat to check his pupils and see if they are bouncing side to side. they always are. then i have to get an ambulance and fight with the driver because he swears up nd down that he's just post-dictal and i know hes subclinically seizing. i won 100 bucks from the last driver. he didnt want to listen .but thats off base i just rant sometimes sorry . i just wanted to give you a little background info on him.  when i first posted i thought no one cares but know i knoe im not alone.

thanks so much  ya'll dont know how nuch it means to me to be able to come to this site

ok ok thats enough bye bye for know---------
