Hello, I need some advice regarding my child who has epilepsy

Thu, 02/03/2005 - 21:03
Hello, I'm 23 years old, a single mom and I have a 3 year old who was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 4 months. For the past 2 weeks I have had the most awful trouble with her in regard to her sleep patterns. She is fighting both me and her daycare provider tooth and nail about going to sleep although you can see she is exhausted. I've also noticed (and it may be coincidental) that she has seizures more often when she is over-tired. Can ANYONE offer me some advice? Thanks in Advance.

Thanks for your response Amy. I have an appointment soon with Ondai's neurologist and will ask her about the B6. Ondai is now 3 and she is really tall for her age so I'm thinking it will probably be okay to introduce the vitamin. As for the sleep EEG, I'm not sure if she's had one. I know that during her regularly scheduled EEG's she has had to go to sleep during part of of so maybe they did look for that. In addition to her sleeplessnes, her seizure pattern has changed as well and we are to do another EEG next month. Thanks alot to everone who has been so willing to answer my questions. I should have come here a long time ago with my questions.

Kelena,I just thought of one more thing... it sounds like you are relating your child's sleep problems to seizure activity. However, could your little girl be getting her molars in? I ask because just about 6 weeks/two months ago our son (just turned three) was getting his molars in. He was sleeping horribly, and as a result, he had more seizures. Just a thought...- Amy

people tend to have more seizure activity when you haven't slept that much...that's why sometimes people have to do sleep deprived EEG's..for that reason, a lot of the time it brings stuff on. I've already had a sleep deprived EEG ( it did end up normal, although i was quite dizzy and disoriented and had severe headaches from the sleep deprivation) and will have to do a few nights sleep deprived when I am hospitalized for video EEG monitoring next week.
