Complex Partial Seizures

Tue, 03/22/2005 - 11:40
How do you parents with kids with partial seizures cope with the medical system? My daughter who suffers from complex partial seizures had a seizure this morning at the school bus stop. The ambulance took her to the ER. The ER told me they believe she is faking! She has only had about six seizures since August, 2004 but they all take the same form. Does anyone else get as frustrated as I feel right now? My daughter is 15.

Thank you for your message! I'm sorry you feel such frustration also. But, in some way, I feel relieved that I am not the only one who feels this way. I also KNOW something is wrong with my daughter. We've been to the neurologist maybe 5 times. I think the total amount of time he has actually spent with her is maybe 30 minutes TOTAL. But yet, he is supposed to know her more than me! I know something isn't right.

My daughter has had complex partial seizures since she was 3 years old she is now 17 and was seizure free for 7 years until we stopped meds . She was good for three months after weening for two and a half years. She is now back on a low dose , as she has had two seizures so far. I know what all of these people are saying but you must remember that you are their mothers and if you can believe in that alone you are going to be just fine. But you kinow you have to try to be tough through this and do what you think is right and be an advocate for your child even if you are told you are an adversary. The only people you are an adversary to is anyone who doesn't believe you . Hold your head high girl as the fight has just begun !!!

                                                             Good Luck

Hi, If you as her Mom think they are real, I would guess that you are right. If she was faking it, I would guess she would be using that "card" (excuse) more often such as on test days etc. I have a 15 year old girl and they just love excuses at this point!Anyway---my biggest concern would be as to why she is having the seizures. Is there break through from the medication and if so, perhaps some changes need to occur. Have they run blood levels on the medicine on her lately?Good luck to you. Hang in there!Diane
