Slow Brain waves on EEG

Tue, 01/05/2010 - 14:20
Hi, I have had seizures of some sort since I was a few months old. It was never very frequent, maybe once or twice a year. I remember as a child when this would happen, people would always ask If I had epilepsy. My parents figured this wasnt anything to worry about, so I was never tested. The past few years, it became more common. I went to the dr to get checked. I was referred to a neurologist, and did n EEG and a sleep deprived EEG. I went in for the results yesterday and he told me that I had abnormal slow brain waves on the left side of my brain and prescribed me Tegretol. He told me that hopefully with this medication I will not ever have another seizure again. My question is, is this epilepsy I have or what is it classified as? Thanks in advance.

I live in norway, and have had diferent kinds of episodes all my life, but recently more often . they are like a catoplexi. i lose muscle strenghth and collapse, but can still see and hear. sometimes provoked by local anaesthetic, sometimes egg yolks, or strressfull situations. I also have episodes where I lose strength just in my legs, or feel strange disorientated, dizzy, have problems speaking and relating. i have collapsed at dentists, ahospitals, parites and all sorts of places. I feel i react inmstantly to some things, and can feel sepisodes coming on in others. i also have migraines with aura. The specialist insists i dont (or shouldnt react allergically to anything, dont hav( i think the right)e a tumour, and dont have epilepsi. but they recorded abnormal, slow brain waves on one side, asi had an episode while they recorded. There was no follow up. I just get to hear i dont have epilepsi. no treatment and no advice on how to avoid the attacks. amny advice? i am pushing to see a neurologist.
