Precocious Puberty & Hormone Treatment
Tue, 10/13/2015 - 09:22Hello, my daughter is 8 and was diagnosed with complex partial epilepsy about a year and a half ago after having some episodes and a positive EEG.
She is taking Keppra but still had seizures once every 4-8 weeks. In addition, she would have some absence episodes a few days coming up to a regular seizure.
A few months ago we were also told she had started the pre-puberty process and was put on a hormone treatment to stop/delay this process.
Since starting on the injections, she is much better form and has had no absence or regular seizures. The neurologist has told us the treatment was going to have no impact but we can see it’s having a positive impact on controlling her epilepsy.
It is early days for us to understand if the hormone treatment is really responsible for the improvement on seizure control, we think so at this point, I’m wondering if anybody has any experience in a similar situation, I could not find any relevant information online. She has had a normal MRI also checking the pituitary gland.
Many thanks, Maria
Hi Amy Jo, I'm also wondering

Hi Amy Jo, I'm also wondering if the early puberty or hormonal changes may have played a role on the development of epilepsy since they both seem to have appeared around the same time. My GP thinks they are related but I wish there was more specialist information available. I will check about sing a paediatric epileptologist, thanks for advice.
