My 9 yr old son had a sleep deprived eeg on monday and they called me this afternoon to tell me that the eeg was abnormal in the frontal lobe and some seizure like activity. They told me to get him a physical to make sure he can be sedated then they would schedule him a MRI and get back to me with the schedule. I am very worried, what does this all mean.?????????????????

wow you have been a lot of help and have really calmed me down,I was just so confused. I am having his physical tomorrow to make sure he can be sedated then we wait for insurance approval, then it will be time for the MRI. I have been dealing with this for years, but everyone always used the adhd thing and we tried like 7 different meds for that and right now he is taking clonedine for his tics,i just never actually went in this direction before, maybe that is why all the other meds werent working.I will keep you updated as soon as i know more and i will cont to check out the site, thanks again for you info and your caring nature, you have been wonderful

I am glad I have been able to make you feel better. Believe me-- I know how scary this process is--- especially when you are unfamiliar with it. As to the sedating your son, my daugther also had some sedation although because she was 5 when she had the test, it was a different sedation then an older child. The test takes some time and it can be very stressful on the child if s/he is awake and it can be hard to lay still. You can talk to your doc about the pros and cons of sedation. If you were sure your son could lay absolutely still for that half hour or so, the doc may not sedate him but it is tough. Please keep me posted and good luck.

Why are they sedating your son?My daughter has had several mri's since she was two and has only been sedated for a few of them because they were going to be an hr long and she can't move. Then she has had shorter ones and they dont sedate her for them she just lays still and watches the machine.Has your son been having seizure problems? It's possible to have seizure activity and not have a seizure.Have they talked to you about putting him on meds?A mri is used because it can trace all the muscles, veins, tissue, etc.I dont know if any of this helps but I hope some.
