Brain atrophy

Have any of you diagnosed with epilepsy been told you have brain atophy (enlargement of the ventricles of the brain)? While I was told that my seizures were psychologically caused, my MRI report says that my brain has mild generalized atrophy. This is the same as a CT scan report from 20 years ago when I was 21. The reason I ask if any of you have been told you have this abnormailty is that I have read it can be associated with epilepsy, as well as some other disorders. I want to know if there might be a connection between having this physical abnormality and epilepsy. Thanks TLH

Hi Coolcanadian. While it wasn't the doctor I saw, I did get to talk to the doctor in charge of the student doctors I saw. When I asked how important the brain atrophy was in a diagnoses, she said she did not know. I am not sure how informed she is about epilepsy. She did not even know about hormones having an influence on seizures. Needless to say, I am going to try for a second opinion. Thanks. tlh64

Hi to All. Just thought I would let you know that I have an appointment on June 15th with a new neurologist. He was recommended to me by the local chapter of the Epilepsy Foundation. It turns out he is also my sister's neurologist. He treats her for her migraines. She says he is a very caring doctor. That is going to help alot. I will let you know what he says. Thank you all for caring about me. TLH
