Epilepsy and marijuana

Hi all, I was wondering whether or not the effects of pot on the brain can intefere with the effects of the epilepsy medicine Tegretol 400mg per day. I know grapefruit and alcohol have adverse effects on the drug's treatments and can lead to uncontrollabe seizure possibilities in some cases. However, in the case of weed I do not not if it does have any interference or not. So if anyone could help me here I would appreciate it. Thanks.Chris

I kinda of blaze through all the post and see others using MJ for sez's. Here's my 2. I been sez's since oct 1988 and have had a countless amount of sez's. During this time I've been on so many pills I can't really think of all them. Seems like doctors/nerous and just plain quacks always thought another pill would cure me. I think one time I was taking 26 pills a day. For years I was out of most things from all the pills. Seems like they were making things worse than better. One day I was at a friends house and his son smokes pot. While there I had a couple small sezuires he gave me a joint to try. I stuff it in my pocket and went home. Next day right out of bed had a couple small sez's so I thought WTH the worse thing could happen have another sez??? I smoke about 1/3 of it and got stoned off my butt. It had been lots of years since I have smoke weed. That day I was able to funtion better and my wife even notice the change. My wife is so anti-drug like you've never seen but now tells me to go" have a smoke" . I still take topamax and smoke 2-3 times a day but having my life back is worth it all. Zen Matt Thank you for your support and I'll burn one just for you.....lol....marty

My experience with epilepsy and smoking grass has been that it really does seem to help. I've found that I have less seizures and the calming effect is a big help. I do not use marijuana if I need to be in public or any setting like that. It tends to be an evening thing for me. I have absence seizures in my sleep, as well as other types of seizures, and I've found that it really does diminish the number of seizures I experience! I know alot of you are totally against this. But there really are alot of uses for marijuana, that just aren't accepted in the USA. I think that it can have a positive impact on treatment of many different disorders. There are tons of med's out there that cause some pretty horrible side effects, and I think that if any of us can find relief in a substance like weed, it can't be a bad thing!

XGI has it phrased perfectly.... we who smoke for seziure control or even for pain control do not dit around and smoke whole joints all day long... that is not the intent... we are not junkies.. we smoke just enough to stop the seziures or the pain ... the intent is not to get high... it is for control..and this will happend after awhile..grin...sorry xgi..lol If you are sitting around smoking whole joints at a time ... you are smoking for the wrong reasons.. you are smoking for the high and for that you are wrong...you demean what we are trying to defend on this thread... But for thsoe of you who are critizing us who do smoke for control ,, dont sit in judgement of us.... Personally when my dr. wanted to move my pain meds for the ms up to morphine i declined... i would rather work through it and smoke if need be.. i have 14 different meds doing god only knows what to my liver, kidneys etc... as it is...
