Urine incontinence in my 4 1/2 old
Mon, 12/15/2014 - 22:43My 4 1/2 old son has been potty trained since a month or so before his 3rd birthday. Never had accidents or even bedtime accidents. He was on lamictal & ethosuximide but had to come off with terrible tummy side effects. Has been put on valproic acid on Oct. 20 and weaned off of the other two. Tummy troubles have cleared up but now he wets his pants several times a day and night. He has to wear pull ups to school and he doesn't like it. He has absence seizures and we just recently spent 5 days in the epilepsy monitioring unit and had to increase his dosage. I addressed this while we were in the hospital to see if maybe he was having seizures that were causing the accidents but his eeg didn't show anything to correlate. He did have spikes every hour and more the hour before his next dose was due so they increased his meds. So I am just wondering if this is some strange side effect of the med or something else. I wish I could just fix him and make it all better. Anyone else out there with any similar issues? Thanks in advance!
Generally spikes are also

Generally spikes are also called abnormalities. Abnormalities are seizure activity. Seizure activity does not mean he is having a seizure but he could have one. If the neurologist increased his dosage tehn he is trying to get the medication levels up in his body. Medications for seizure control are not like asperin which is taken to stop a head ache. One size does not fit all. As his body grows his medication levels also change and the dosage needs to be increased, You posted his medications were changed oct 20. well it takes time for the body to get used to the medication and get the levels where the doctor wants them. Generally the doctor would want to set an appt 3 months after putting a person on a dosage and that would be when the dossage would be increased or decreasaed. As for him wetting himself that could be a seizure but it may not be. I have done that during some of my seizures throughout the years I have been living and dealing with epilepsy. It isn't fun when you are at work which has happened to me.Nost mothers want to fix things so their kids can be perfect. Most people do not know that there are 40+ different types of seizures. They know about one type which is a grand mal AKA tonic clonic. Have you ever seen him like he was in a day dream? If yo uhave then those day dreams could have been seizures. Absence seizures are like that and so are focal seizures and simple partial seizures. I hope the increase in his meds helps him and he gets seizure free. Oh and if he is to be taking his meds 2 times a day those times should be 12 hours apart, Unless the doctor tells you differently Joe
