Two Daughters with Epilepsy

Fri, 08/08/2014 - 14:30

My elder daughter (19 years old) has Juvenile Mycolonic Epilepsy, she was diagnosed 3 years ago, now.  Younger daughter (almost 16) has been having some myoclonic type episodes since about May (possibly earlier).  We took her to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin yesterday for a consult with a neurologist there.  The discharge sheet we received show a diagnosis of "generalized convulsive epilepsy".  I have Googled left, right and sideways and cannot come up with anything.  We left with a prescription for Clonazepam and we will be getting a call for an in-home EEG.  Is the "generalized convulsive epilepsy" another term for something?  Is it like a broad umbrella for other types of epilepsy?  I am not really sure.

He seemed to be rather stymied or flummoxed by our family history, as well.  When I was 11 I was diagnosed with epilepsy, and when I was 18 I had an EEG that discovered no epileptic episodes so they took my off my phenobarbital--cold turkey. I have never had another seizure.  My mother was diagnosed with epilepsy 10 years ago, at the age of 57.  My elder daughter has epilepsy and now my younger daughter.  Also, there is a cousin of my maternal grandmother that had epilepsy.  He said we had a "strange" family history.

It was one of the directors

It was one of the directors of the clinic . Everything else was fine otherwise. It was just hard to get a "read" on him, I guess.  He seemed nice enough. As you said, they will have hopefully more specifics after the EEG.  She goes for that next Friday morning.
