Son's seizure took a new form

Tue, 07/15/2014 - 19:00

After 10 years of dealing with Petit Mal seizures with my son, he is now 15, Sunday night became a whole different game!! He had his first Gran Mal Seizure ever. Talk about a scary night. Knowing it was a possibility and it actually happening was just to much. After spending the night at The Children's Hospital ER we were sent home with an uneasy feeling hoping it wouldn't happen again. Our Doc has done an adjustment on his meds and we have meds on hand in case it happens again. My questions are not answered though. She didn't have an answer as to why and it's not that she should have one I know it's that sometimes there just isn't one. My question for all of you is have any of you had this happen?  Could his seizures be changing?

Your son is luckyin some ways

Your son is luckyin some ways. If tested before and the EEG showed abnormalities. (seizure activity) and he was diagnosed with petite mal epilepsy. That was because those were the only seizures your son had had. With me my first known seizure was a grand mal seizure. After the testing my diagnosis was Grand mal, Petite mal and focal motor epilepsy.. The first seizure was grand mal. I had been written up for day dreaming (absence seizures or petite mal) nothing was done since those were 1-2 years before. I also had some wierd feeling now and then in my hand. but I never said anything becasue I thought it was because I over exerted my hand while working in the yard and the other chores I had to do. Those wierd feeling were focal seizures that I said nothing about for over 1 year. in other words is they saw abnormalities (seizure activity the know where in the head it came from. Knowing that they know he can have seizures. They can say they think the seizures he may only have is absence or petitte mal seizures but he may have other types of seizures. Your son is growing and changes need to be made while those changes happen. When I was his age I grew from 4"8" and 85 lbs to 5'6" and 135. All that growth was done in 8-10 months. I was having more seizures because the dosages were too low. We changed my dosage 4-5 times in that short time. Most of my seizures stopped. Later  after another dosage change I went 3+ years without any seizures period. Relax and be greatful just know he may have other seizures. I for one have had only 1 grand mal seizure which happened around 1962 (I have slept since then) I had focal seizures which generalized (becomming convulsive) But I haven't had a convulsion of any kind since 1970. In other words relax he may never have any seizures other the the petite seizures you know about. I do hope he gets his seizures under control and he gets seizure free Joe
