Seizure cause of high fever? and nocturnal problems

Wed, 06/20/2007 - 22:06
Hello I am a new member. My 3 year old son was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago. He has had mostly partial complex seizures and currently takes Trileptal. His last typical (for him) seizure was three weeks ago and his medication dose was increased. Yesterday morning he called out from his bed, "Mommy I can't get out of my bed" and I found him lying on his back with his arms and legs flailing. I figured that he was seizing although previous episodes have involved loss of consciousness. When I picked him up I noticed that he was buring hot. His rectal temp was 105.2! With a cool bath and Ibuprofen the temp decreased to normal. I rushed him to our family doctor who could not find a cause of the fever and my son was aboslutely normal on physical exam. No GI symptoms, no cold symptoms, no ear infections. The neurologist cannot explain it either. Anyone out there with similar experience? I know that fevers can cause seizures but, can seizures cause really high body temperatures? Also, for the past six weeks my son has been waking from the hours of midnight to 6am and walking through the house crying and turning on the lights. I put him back in bed and then it may happen one or two more times. I am at my wits end. The neurologist is supposed to order a sleep study soon. She says that the frontl lobe may be involved. In the meantime, I plan on trying to stay up and videotape as much of the behavior as possible. Anyone out there with similar experiences? I am so tired and confused. Thanks! Cheryl

My son who is 26 and has LGS

My son who is 26 and has LGS seems to maintain a body temp between 99 and 100.3.  He seems fine, though and all of his blood tests show normal ranges in all areas.  He has seizures, all sorts, every day.  He takes CBD oil, Keppra, Depakote, Verapamil, Onfi and Vimpat.  I started to research the causes of these mystery fevers as it relates to seizures and landed on this post.

I hope this helps. I have not

I hope this helps. I have not been diagnosed but as you may know it can be pretty tricky as i dont have then on a regular. I also have complexed partial seizures and i had one this morning. After the past two seizures i have had flu like symptoms like body aches, what certainly feels like a fever and a loss in appetite. I do not take medication but it was suggested.
