question

Tonight at dinner time my 3.5 year old son had what I think was a very short seizure. It's the first time this has happened, all his seizures before have been full tonic clinic seizures that last at least a minute. Here's what happened: We were eating dinner when he reached across his plate picked up some food and froze. His arm started shaking and his face was twitching, I thought for sure he was having a seizure so I reached to take the food out of his hand and move the table when he just snapped out of it. All in all it probably lasted less than 5 seconds. He got mad at me for taking his food. He acted a little off afterwards but that was it. We thought it might be an aura, and stuck close to him for the next hour, but so far nothing has happened. Anyone have an idea what this might have been? Could it have been the meds working to prevent it? He is on valproic acid 250mg x2 a day. This is all so new to us. . .

What you posted could have

What you posted could have been a partial seizure. Absenc seizures are like blips in time. They are like day dreaming. I have partial seizures. Some last longer then others. But the ones I have now are a few seconds long. If he got mad because you were taking his food away then he knows what was happening during that time period. In mine I know what happens and hear everything I just can't do anything.  I saw that he takes meds 2 times a day. Please try and keep those dosages 12 hours apart. Medications lose their strength as they disolve in the body and any time over those dosages the dosage level is weaker then it needs to be. I take mine at 8 am & 8 pm. If I take them at 8 am & 10 pm that 2 hour difference can cause breakthru seizures. I would also suggest you get th My Epilepsy Diary. It can be found in the get help section. Just set yur mouse on that and see it pop up on the right side. Watch the video which tells you how to use it and what it can do. There is sections meds, mood,a note pad for you to write doen things that you saw and you can also write down anything that was different that day. Or a different possiable seizure like the one you posted here. Give your neurologist permission to bring it up and he can see the graphs and other things. By doing that he can come up with different meds, dosages or procedures which could help get your son seizure free I hope this helps...
