Memory issues with Absence Seizures?

Mon, 10/20/2014 - 23:09

My daughter, 4 years old, was diagnosed with absence seizures just a little over a month ago.  She's taking the generic of Zarontin and the seizures have seemingly been controlled.  However, we've really noticed that her memory is just terrible and she seems to have a hard time grasping simple concepts.  I think its something we've noticed before all of this, but now knowing she has seizures, its really drawing it to our attention.  We've mentioned it to our doctor and he keeps saying we'll address it later on.  Its really concerning us.  I was wondering if anyone has heard of a connection between the seizures/meds and absence seizures and what we should do to address it.  Thanks in advance.

If the seizures aren't fully

If the seizures aren't fully controlled, your child could still be missing the time/instruction to absorb concepts. Have you had a followup EEG to see if the seizure control is better? I recall seeing one mom explain that she didn't realize how many seizures she was missing until another EEG was done, this was in regards to absence. My child has focal seizures, some of which are a huge whammy to her memory so likely a different memory issue.
