Keppra withdrawal

Thu, 05/18/2017 - 15:23
My daughter is 11 years old, she was on Keppra for 23 months. Her last dosage was 1000mg twice a day from October 2016 until 11 May 2017. Her neurologist stopped the Keppra "cold turkey". We have had no seizures. Her sodium and chloride level are slightly low - could be from the Trileptal. She started vomiting at 7pm, it is now after 9pm. Everytime she moves, she starts vomiting again. She has no stomach cramps or pain and no fever. Can this be withdrawal symptoms? Has any one experienced anything similar? What did you do to ease it? I have given her 2 tablets for nausea at two different intervals, and they are both out.

Don't know where you are but

Don't know where you are but I hope you took her into urgent care. Vomiting could be so many things, even some seizures are noted by vomiting. Zofran doesn't really work for our child's neurological issues (gives us 20 min instead of 6-8 hours), so depending on the anti emetic you used, it may not work for non flu like situations.. Unless your doc was responding to a life threatening situation, taking someone cold turkey off epilepsy meds is not ideal so it might be a good time to consider switching to a more careful doc. The low sodium is not uncommon with trileptal, that's something that you track over time but if it radically changed recently, that could be an emergency. Our child was quickly weaned off trileptal during an EEG and they decided not to put her back on it so within a week, got some crappy partials so seizures can happen, just might not recognize something as a seizure sometimes. When our child stopped keppra (for talking about wanting to die), weaned her off at the standard rate and symptoms didn't stop until she was off it completely for a day. Keppra is metabolized and out of the body very quickly, so it's definitely out of your child's system by now.

My 3 year old grandson just started having seizures 4 days ago and that is the medicine he is on and the doctor said he needed to be on it for at least 2 years, she said then the would slowly take him off of it. Have you called the doctor? We were told you can not just stop taking it. Please call your doctor.
