Epileptic husband - need someone to talk to!

Tue, 05/17/2016 - 20:44
My husband is epileptic with grand mal Seizures. We are very lucky. His seizures are well controlled. He has only had about 8 since he was 12 years old (33 yo old now). Last one was a year ago - until today when he had 2 in one day. He has never had 2 in one day before....it is usually years or at least months between them. I am sitting in the ER and I am just so sad. And need someone who can relate to this. We have a 19 month old son...I dont know how I am going to do this. If anyone is out there, I could use some encouragement. P.S. New to site so I'm sorry if this is not an appropriate post.

Hi! I have epilepsy and have grand mal seizures. I'm so sorry he had 2 seizures in one day I know that's scary for you. The main thing to realize is he's alive and going to be OK. I'm so glad that his seizures are well controlled by his medication. How your going to do this is by being there for both your husband will your son...also by knowing that there are people you can talk to if your having a bad day or you just need some one to talk to.

Thanks to everyone who

Thanks to everyone who replied. Although we have been living with this for years, it is always a reset when he has another seizure. And these two really threw me for a loop...thought we were really doing it right, minimizing triggers, etc.  We will ALL be fine, just have to adjust to a new normal each time I guess. Thanks again. God Bless all of you and this entire community!

Well controlled is very good.

Well controlled is very good. Your question is appropraite in this post.If his medication dosage has not beem changed for some time then he could have had a breakthru seizure. I have a visit with Doc every year to find out is my medications are working like they had been the year before, If there was a change it is notes and there might be a dosage increase, Another visit is schuldged for 6 months, If things are going like we wanted then the next would be a year. As the person ages the body ages and changes do need to be thought of.Now if you are worried about your young son relax. I was the one with epilepsy. Pete (step father) wound up in the hospital for 6 months because of a auto accident. Mom had to bring in the money for rent and the bills. She went to work at a restaurant at night so it was up to me to take care of Tim who was about your sons age. BAck then real diapers were used. I was having different kinds of seizures and things went fine. Mom was worried but when she came home th first knight she saw that I figured out a way to keep Tim safe and do my homework and keep him laying down where he was safe. Couches can get used. Coffee tables slide against them and setting indian style allows a person to use it as a desk.Discuss the issued with youe husband and things will come out fine. You fill find a way to do what is necessary I hope this helpsJoe
